Killing Me Softly

Looking through the NPR site i found one of the most inspirational and dynamic artist alive. Yes, Lauryn Hill , Ms.Hill as she likes to be called, captured my soul through her words and songs.HEr diverse lyrics and captivating tune vibrates thorough my body with each and every song I listen to. To me Lauryn Hill is a rare breed who many do not understand ,but through her words translate a woman who has overcome leaps and bound and through her music she releases her pain and pours out every emotion into her words.

Lauryn Hill is a raper and singer and her genre is   classified as a rhythmic spoken word but to many she's more than an artist. Her singing gives you a feeling of no other, for me its a journey. When I listen to her music it gives you a feeling as if someone has just captured my body, mind, and soul and has taken it to a place where you never felt you could go.For instance, her songs "Killing Me Softly", "Nothing Even Matters", and " Redemption Song" and all examples of  songs that in one way or another bring joy to my heart.Below is the article I found so I hope you enjoy , but I know you will . Chrisette Michele

This amazing women in the image is of Chrisette Michele, and i found on one of the sites Mr. Abrams gave us to use. I chose this image because her voice, the tune in her expressions, and everything about her is what and where i would like to be.  A gorgeous and effortlessly versatile singing voice colored with Billie Holiday-with inflections of vocal pop and jazz. Chrisette individuality shines through from every angle, and I for one am an extreme fan. She got her first shot in the song "Lost Ones" with Jay-Z and Nas, and after she branched off into one of the most diverse and successful artist to date. Below are the videos of "lost ones" and her song " Love Is You" i hope you enjoy.

The link above is to my playlist of ten songs I put together on youtube for my English 11 project. The songs are my representation of the novel The Fallen by Paul Langan, that I read and i must say it was quite interesting. I can honestly saw Im not the reading type ,but once a book draws you in there's no resisting and thats exactly what happened. The book is basicly about a boy , Martin Luna, whos brother was killed during a drive by, but the bullet was meant for his friend. Now Martin must choose to either kill for revenge and continue done the stone path he is creating, or pull it together and get his life together. Each song in the playlist in some way moved me as much as the book , but you must Read Between The Lyrics. So i hope everyone enjoys the music and takes a look into the novel.

Ethel Waters

This blog is combining my History III class in with our Senior Project class. Ms. Hansbury has asked everyone to write a two page paper on our selected artist from the Harlem Renaissance, and add some type of digital or entertainment effect to it. So why not take the chance and introduce my blog.

Ethel Waters was one of the most popular African-American singers and actresses of the 1920s. She moved to New York in 1919 after touring in vaudeville shows as a singer and a dancer. She made her recording debut in 1921 on Cardinal records with "The New York Glide" and "At the New Jump Steady Ball", but switched over to African-American owned Black Swan label, and recorded "Down Home Blues" and "Oh Daddy" the first Blues numbers for that company. She frequently sang with Fletcher Henderson during the early 1920s, but by the mid-1920s Waters had became more of a pop singer. She performed in a number of musical revues throughout the rest of the decade and appeared a couple of films, including "Check and Double Check" with Amos 'n' Andy and Duke Ellington. By the end of the 1930s she was a big star on Broadway. In 1949, she was nominated for an Oscar for best supporting actress in the film "Pinky", and the next year she won the New York Drama Critics Award for best actress. Waters got religion in the late Fifties and performed and toured with evangelist Billy Graham until her death in 1977. I Could Just Imagine...

Well class a neck spain couldnt hold me back from this article. Its captivating, explosive, and good feel just pulls you in with each line in the article. I can only imagine what the acticle captured having some of the world greatest artist on one stage. In the article they show a video of Girl Talk , a stage performer ,29-year-old Pittsburgh native Gregg Gillis. He gives you the same freedom, daring and camaraderie that you might feel at a house party when someone’s parents are away.  Girl Talk songs are mash-ups: chunks of other people’s songs combined into new ones: the Rolling Stones and the rapper Wiz Khalifa, Ice Cube and Devo, he is truly a revolution within hiself.
